Flybe collapse: we’re here to help

Europes largest regional airline Flybe has today entered administration putting 1000's of jobs at risk and grounding aircraft. This news will affect 1000's of customers expecting to fly to over 180 destinations.

If you have a flight booked with Flybe no doubt you will have concerns, but please rest assured, Not Just Travel is here to help and guide our customers on what needs to be done in order to allow your travel plans to continue or to secure you a refund.

As of today, all Flybe flights have been cancelled and, if standard protocol is followed, bookings will not be transferred to another airline.

So what do you do and what are the options?

First thing you do is call your Personal Travel Consultant. We will be able to give you the best advice and guidance.

If you booked a package holiday with Not Just Travel in which Flybe flights are included, rest assured, you are protected. Your package deal will be covered by the supplier’s ATOL scheme – although the level of protection can differ.

As Flybe was the largest regional airline, there is limited choice for alternatives. However if you contact us we’ll work with you to find suitable alternative flights. You may have to be slightly flexible by agreeing to alternative flight times, departure airports and dates – but everything will be done to accommodate you and match as closely as possible your original plans.

The most important thing to do now is to act quickly to find an alternative. There will be a lot of people in the same position looking for other options, therefore prices can increase rapidly, and availability reduce.

If you have a booking made with us, we will be in contact with you shortly to discuss options, however do feel free to contact us now.

What about if you’ve only booked flights with Flybe?

If you made your flight-only booking with us, chances are still very high that you’ll be protected thanks to the special insurances we add to bookings.

It’s a greyer area for any travellers who booked their flights individually and directly with Flybe.  Strictly speaking, passengers who booked tickets from Flybe are not ATOL protected, meaning that tickets most likely will not be refunded.

What about insurance?

Now is the time to dig out your travel insurance policy. While some travel insurance companies will cover cancelled flights if they are the result of an airline collapse, many do not. When you scour the small print, look out for Scheduled Airline Failure Insurance or End Supplier Failure. Annoyingly, many travel policies do not include this – but you may be lucky.

Don’t forget your credit card

Did you book your flights on your credit card? If you paid for all or part of your flight with a credit card and it cost more than £100, you may be covered by your credit card company.

For those who booked with a debit card, check with your bank to see if you are eligible for a refund using its Chargeback Scheme.

Comment from our Co-Founder Steve Witt:

“Once again, this unfortunate situation reiterates the importance of booking holidays through a company that is both ABTA bonded and ATOL protected. As we were for all our Thomas Cook customers, we are there to help any travellers who are affected by Flybe’s collapse.

“Our team have already started to receive calls from travellers – even those who have not booked with us – urgently seeking advice. We are helping them all."

“Compared to the likes of Easyjet, which carries over 96 million passengers a year, Flybe is a relatively small airline carrying around eight million a year. However, operating 189 routes in the UK and Europe it had a firm grip on the British regional flight market and its collapse is a clear sign that the airline sector is struggling under the weight of an industry price war and rising costs. It’s an unsettled time for airlines and the industry as a whole”

Customers due to travel on a code-share flight should contact the partner airline directly to check their status.
